Skim: Note Taker for the Mac Scholar

(Mac) Often times, researching involves accumulating a number of PDFs from academic journals. Printing them out and then going through the old school techniques of highlighting, annotating on the sides, post-it notes everywhere, and lets not forget storing them somewhere you might remember.

Mac OS X provides default program Preview, to read PDFs. However, its very limited. Skim, an open source free application designed to note-take on PDFs, provides features like that in the real world: highlighting, annotating, sticky notes, and archiving. If you wanted a clean version of your PDFs, you can always open it back in Preview. This powerful tool for researchers, students, or curious scholars, is real good when needing to cut down on the cost per page print outs at school’s computer labs and also transporting all your research in one centralized location.
Happy studying.
